Origins and Design
The B-1 Racer aircraft was built in 1933 by Brown Aircraft Co., a firm founded in 1931 by Lawrence W. Brown. The aircraft’s designer, Dean Holloway, created it specifically for pilot Ralph Bushey. The B-1 was a single-seat, low-wing monoplane with fixed landing gear.
Racing History and Restoration
Ralph Bushey competed in several races with this aircraft (NR83Y) but did not achieve any significant accomplishments. During one of the races, the aircraft crashed and was only restored in 1947. A Continental C-85 engine with 85 hp was installed in the plane during its restoration.
Legacy in Aviation
The B-1, named “Suzie Jayne,” continued to participate in air races in the “midget racer” class. It is currently housed at the Wings Over Miami Museum in Miami, Florida.
