The CH-149 Cormorant: An Advanced Rescue Helicopter

The CH-149 Cormorant is a search and rescue helicopter built by the international consortium European Helicopter Industries (EHI). This aircraft is a specialized Search and Rescue (SAR) modification of the EH101 Merlin helicopter, meticulously designed for critical missions.

Its spacious cabin has been reconfigured to allow access via rescue ladders and two powerful 223-kg winches. The Cormorant can accommodate 12 stretchers or 30 seated casualties; in emergency overload situations, it can take up to 40 people.

SAR Capabilities and Design

Deliveries of the CH-149 Cormorant commenced in early 2001, with the final delivery of the 15 ordered machines scheduled for late 2002. This helicopter was specifically intended to replace the aging CH-113 Labrador search and rescue helicopters, significantly enhancing rescue capabilities.
