The Bleriot-SPAD S.710 fighter was the company’s final development. This aircraft was intended to compete in the 1934 single-seat fighter competition, alongside notable designs such as the Morane-Saulnier MS.405, Bloch MB.150, Dewoitine D.513, Loire-Nieuport LN 161, and Loire 250.
Advanced Design Features
The S.710 arrived late to the competition, and only one prototype of this aircraft was ever built. It incorporated numerous advanced design solutions, including a butterfly tail (successfully tested on the S.922), retractable landing gear, and an enclosed cockpit.
A Tragic Maiden Flight
The S.710’s maiden flight occurred in April 1937. Tragically, on June 15 of the same year, the aircraft crashed, killing Louis Massotte. Following this devastating incident, Henri Herbemont withdrew from aircraft design.
