Origins and Design Legacy
The Cessna Model 205 appeared in 1962 and externally resembled the Cessna 210 with non-retractable landing gear, though it originated from the Cessna Model 182. According to the FAA airworthiness certificate, obtained on June 14, 1962, the aircraft was designated as Cessna Model 210-5. The aircraft featured a 260 hp Continental engine and, in a sense, was an evolution of the Cessna Model 185 Skywagon, sharing similar characteristics and a slightly greater weight.
Production Timeline and Evolution
Deliveries commenced in August 1962, and by December 1963, Cessna introduced the improved Model 205A. A total of 576 units of the 205/205A series were built before aircraft of this type were superseded by more modern machines in late 1963.
Practicality and Adaptability
The 205/205A series aircraft included agricultural equipment and, like most high-wing single-engine Cessna aircraft, was practical in operation. It could be fitted with floats, skis, or wheeled landing gear of various sizes, making it exceptionally versatile.
