Design and Origins

Designed by engineer Ermenegildo Preti, the Agusta CP-111 first flew in 1951. It was a three-seat variant of the CP-110, sharing a wooden construction with plywood skin.

Key Features and Powerplant

This model distinguished itself from its predecessor by featuring a fixed landing gear and an improved power plant. It was equipped with an Avco Lycoming O-435-1 engine, providing enhanced performance.

Performance Challenges

Despite the installation of a more powerful engine, the flight characteristics of the CP-111 deteriorated compared to the CP-110, even with the same takeoff weight. This decline was primarily due to increased frontal drag, as the fixed landing gear and wider engine contributed significantly to this aerodynamic disadvantage.
