The Avia BH-12 emerged as the final variant in the Avia BH-9 family, presenting itself as another two-seat, purely civilian version derived from the BH-9 aircraft. A distinctive feature that set it apart from earlier models was its modified wing profile.
Innovative Folding Wing Design
This aircraft was specifically designed to meet the demand for a sports plane equipped with folding wings. Its wing panels were engineered to pivot on hinges, allowing them to fold back along the fuselage. This innovative design enabled the aircraft to be transported conveniently on a trailer behind a car when its wings were retracted.
Maiden Flight and Unique Status
Assembly of the Avia BH-12 was completed in early summer 1924, and it successfully undertook its maiden flight on June 15 of the same year. Only one example of this aircraft was ever produced, receiving the civilian registration L-BONA, making it a unique piece of aviation history.
