Design and Development
In 1933, the Ca.124 bomber-torpedo bomber was built by Aeronautica Caproni, commissioned by the Italian Fleet Aviation. It was a three-seater low-wing monoplane of mixed construction. The aircraft was powered by a 750 hp twelve-cylinder V-engine, the Isotta Franschini Asso XIRC.15.
Armament and Payload
Its armament included two synchronized 7.7mm machine guns in the front and an identical movable machine gun in the rear hemisphere. Bombs, weighing up to 700 kg, were carried on suspension points under the wings. A torpedo could be stored in a special compartment beneath the fuselage.
Trials and Ultimate Fate
The aircraft successfully underwent trials, demonstrating good flight characteristics. However, by this time, the military had shifted its preference to multi-engine torpedo bombers. Consequently, the sole prototype of this bomber was ultimately scrapped.
