Initial Development and Features

The Cessna 421 Golden Eagle is a light multi-purpose aircraft, developed by the American firm Cessna Aircraft Co. The prototype Cessna Model 421 made its first flight on October 14, 1965. This model was based on the 401/411 models, with its main distinctions being a design featuring a reliable pressurized fuselage and a cabin pressurization system from AiResearch.

Certification took place in May 1967, and initial deliveries began that same month.

Evolution of the Model 421B

In 1970, two new modifications of the Model 421 appeared: the Model 421B Golden Eagle and the Model 421B Executive Commuter. Both modifications featured an enlarged nose section of the fuselage to accommodate additional onboard electronic equipment and baggage, a greater wingspan, a stronger landing gear, and a number of other improvements.

The 421C Series and End of Production

These were replaced in 1976 by the Model 421C Golden Eagle, which had significant differences. These included a new wing, devoid of large tip fuel tanks, which were replaced by integrated tanks, an increased fin area, and an increase in engine turbosupercharger power. Four variants of the aircraft were available for sale.

The Model 421C Golden Eagle and Model 421C Executive Commuter were produced under the designation Model 421C II, and these modifications were equipped with proprietary onboard electronic equipment. In 1978, production of the Executive Commuter model was suspended, while the Golden Eagle model was available for sale in its standard variant, as well as in the Model 421C II and Model 421C III modifications. By the end of 1985, when Golden Eagle production ceased, 1909 aircraft of this model had been sold.
