Cessna 750 Citation X+

On January 17, 2012, the prototype of the new business jet Citation Ten (Cessna 750 Citation X+), manufactured by the American company Cessna, made its first flight. The Cessna Citation Ten business jet was first introduced in 2010. In essence, it is a direct descendant of the Citation X model, which earned worldwide recognition.

The American manufacturer announced the upgrade program for the high-speed mid-size business jet Citation X at the NBAA exhibition in 2010. At that time, the company decided to change the name of this aircraft to Citation Ten. However, at NBAA-2012, the company, “due to numerous requests,” reverted to the old name – Citation X. According to the company, the “Citation X” brand had long been a symbol of speed, and Cessna customers did not want to give it up.

Moreover, Cessna intended to reclaim its title as the fastest business jet, which had been taken from it by the G650. The manufacturer announced a maximum cruising speed for the new aircraft of 0.935 Mach (compared to the G650’s 0.925 Mach) or 1145 km/h. FAA specialists, as part of the aircraft’s certification, conducted several inspection flights in the so-called “high-speed test,” during which the business jet’s systems were checked at speeds close to the maximum 0.935 Mach. As a result of the test flights, the aircraft demonstrated all the performance characteristics stated by the manufacturer, and no comments were noted by the FAA regarding the aircraft’s maneuverability and behavior at maximum speeds.

The Citation Ten is slightly larger than its predecessor, as well as being faster and more economical. Its length is 38 centimeters greater, and its maximum flight range became 6410 kilometers. Citation Ten passengers will be able to make non-stop flights from Moscow to Beijing, Kolkata, or St. John’s. The payload also increased by 100 kg.

Avionics and Engine Innovations

The main changes concern the avionics: the aircraft is equipped with the Garmin 5000 avionics suite instead of the Honeywell Primus 2000. On the control panel, there are three enlarged 14-inch diagonal graphical displays, as well as a multi-functional dual-zone display.

In addition to this, 4 touchscreens will appear, allowing pilots to configure displays and radio communication, control and modify the route, and manage aircraft equipment. These enhancements aim to optimize the pilot’s interaction with the aircraft systems, providing more intuitive and efficient control.

According to Cessna Aircraft, the business jet is equipped with more powerful and efficient Rolls-Royce AE 3007C2 engines, which were certified in 2013.

Superior Cabin Design and Comfort

The Citation Ten’s cabin was designed for maximum comfort on long flights. The aircraft has a fuselage that is 38 cm longer compared to the previous model.

Although the fuselage cross-section will remain the same, passengers will get additional legroom, and modernized seats will be able to fully recline and become more voluminous. Standard configurations are designed for 8-12 people. The Citation Ten will feature a new interior, and the seat arrangement in the aircraft will also change. Each pair of seats, located opposite each other, transforms into a full sleeping berth. Satellite communication, radio, and Wi-Fi will be functional on board.

The End of an Era for the Business Jet

In 2018, Cessna, part of the Textron conglomerate, announced the cessation of production of the Citation X+ business jet, which for almost two decades was the largest and fastest aircraft model produced by the company.

The discontinuation of Citation X+ production aimed to avoid internal competition between this model and the Citation Longitude.
