The Comp Air Jet is an administrative aircraft developed by the American company Comp Air. In 2002, the company’s management decided to develop, design, and subsequently release a small turbofan aircraft suitable for private individuals and business aviation. Development of the Comp Air Jet lasted two years.

On July 10, 2004, this model made its maiden flight.

Key Features and Design Innovation

A key feature of the Comp Air Jet, unlike other aircraft produced by this American aerospace corporation, is its use of a turbofan engine. This provides high thrust and high cruising speed. Additionally, the aircraft can be supplied fully assembled; earlier models were only available as self-assembly kits, requiring around 800-1000 hours to build the finished aircraft.

The aircraft boasts good handling, high maneuverability, and ensures high flight safety. These attributes indicate the potential for continued production of this model, a prospect further supported by strong customer interest.

Cabin Comfort and Capacity

Its pressurized, comfortable cabin (height – 1778 mm, width – 1727 mm) allows for a cabin altitude of 3000 meters to be maintained during flights at 9100 meters. Depending on the configuration, the Comp Air Jet can accommodate up to 8 people, including one pilot and seven passengers. However, when operated as a business aviation aircraft, passenger capacity typically does not exceed 5 people.

The aircraft’s interior can be finished either in a standard configuration or with expensive materials, including leather, wood, and other premium options, according to customer requirements.

Powerplant and Performance

The aircraft’s powerplant, depending on customer preference, is either a Ukrainian-made Ivchenko-Progress AI-25 turbofan engine with 1500 kgf of thrust, or a Pratt & Whitney JT12-8 providing 16 kN of thrust. Thanks to its powerful propulsion system, the Comp Air Jet is capable of covering distances up to 3650 kilometers.

It achieves a cruising speed of up to 648 km/h. An impressive takeoff weight of 5000 kg (empty weight approximately 2700 kg) and a substantial fuel reserve of 1800 liters allow for a flight range of up to 2000 km.

The full cost of one Comp Air Jet in 2004 was 1,200,000 US dollars (with the kit and engine costing 399,000 dollars). The project is currently frozen, and only one example of the aircraft was produced.
