The A.4 was a light aircraft developed by the Italian company Breda. Equipped with a 130 hp (97 kW) Colombo 110D piston engine, it first flew in 1927. The aircraft enjoyed great popularity, with several dozen units being produced.

Development and Operational Use

A portion of these aircraft was acquired by the Regia Aeronautica for its flight schools. The A.4’s widespread production and use underscored its reliability and effectiveness as a training and liaison aircraft of its era.

Notable Variants

Several machines were fitted with a more powerful 180 hp (134 kW) French engine, leading to the A.4HS variant. In addition to the land-based version, a naval seaplane version on floats, designated A.4 idro, was also manufactured starting in 1927.
