Origins and Transformation
In 1929, Berliner Aircraft Co. was transformed into Berliner-Joyce Aircraft Co. One of the new company’s first projects was a light multi-purpose aircraft, named the Berliner-Joyce Commercial (also known as Berliner-Joyce 29-1 or Berliner-Joyce Model E).
Technical Specifications
This was a two-seat, strut-braced high-wing monoplane of mixed construction. Powered by a five-cylinder Kinner engine delivering 115 hp, the aircraft could reach a speed of 241 km/h (150 mph) and climb to a maximum altitude of 4572 meters.
Two 15-gallon (approximately 57 liters) fuel tanks were located in the wings, providing the necessary range for its operations.
Production and Legacy
Only a single unit of the aircraft (N618E) was manufactured. Despite its name, “Commercial,” it failed to achieve commercial success in the market.
