Bleriot 53

In 1915, the Louis Blériot company constructed the unusual Bleriot 53 reconnaissance aircraft. This two-seater, two-bay biplane was initially equipped with two 80 hp Le Rhône engines, designed for intelligence gathering missions.

Initial Design and Powerplant

The original configuration featured twin Le Rhône engines, each providing 80 horsepower. However, following several test flights, it became clear that this power setup was insufficient for the desired performance.

Performance and Production Outcome

Consequently, the powerplant was replaced with two more powerful 100 hp Anzani engines. Despite this upgrade, the aircraft’s flight characteristics still failed to impress military officials, leading to the decision not to proceed with its series production.
