The Br.1100 was a multi-purpose fighter developed by the French firm Breguet Aviation. Following the end of the Korean War, NATO launched the Light Weight Tactical Strike Fighter (LWTF) program, aiming to develop a lightweight tactical strike fighter.
NATO’s LWTF Program
France participated in this program through two of its major aeronautical companies. Breguet Aviation presented its Br.1100 project, while Dassault Aviation proposed the Dassault Mystère XXII, also known as the Étendard II.
Maiden Flight and Evolution
The first flight of the Br.1100 took place on March 11, 1957. By this time, however, military requirements had significantly changed, leading to a decision to modernize the aircraft. This modernization effort resulted in the development of the Br.1001 Taon.
