The Buccaneer is a light, multi-purpose amphibious aircraft, produced by the American company Advanced Aeromarine, based in Ocoee, Florida. The prototype made its first flight in 1984, marking the beginning of this versatile aviation design.
Design and Engines
The Advanced Aeromarine Buccaneer is characterized as a single-seat, strut-braced high-wing monoplane. It was initially equipped with a single-cylinder Rotax 277 engine, providing 27 hp (20 kW), which drove a three- or four-blade pusher propeller.
As an alternative powerplant, a two-cylinder Rotax 377 engine, offering 35 hp (26 kW) of power, could be used. These engine options provided flexibility for builders and operators of the aircraft.
Configurations and Development
The Advanced Aeromarine Buccaneer was offered to buyers as a self-assembly kit in three main configurations. These included the basic Buccaneer XA, the single-seat Buccaneer SX with Rotax 447 (40 hp) or Rotax 503 (50 hp) engines, and the two-seat Buccaneer II, powered by Rotax 582 (64 hp) or Rotax 912 (80 hp) engines.
Furthermore, there is a modified variant known as the Mallard M2-A. The license for the aircraft’s production was later acquired by Advanced Aviation, ensuring its continued presence and evolution in the light aircraft market.
