Development and Initial Features

The C-101CC Aviojet is an upgraded attack variant of CASA’s C-101 Aviojet light attack aircraft and advanced trainer. The C.101CC made its first flight on November 16, 1983, powered by a single TFE731-5-1J turbofan engine.

The aircraft featured a modernized weapon control system and a computer-guided weapon targeting system. While the suspended weapon payload mass did not increase as the pylons remained unchanged, the increase in maximum takeoff weight allowed for a larger fuel capacity.

International Orders and Production

In 1984, Chile ordered 23 C.101CC-02 light attack aircraft. One of these was assembled in Spain, three were delivered as kits, and the remaining 19 were manufactured under license in Chile, where they were known as the A-36 Halcón.

C-101CC aircraft were also supplied to the Royal Jordanian Air Force. This model showcased its versatility and capabilities across different operational theaters.

C.101DD Prototype and Advanced Avionics

On May 25, 1985, CASA test-flew the C.101DD prototype, also equipped with the TFE731-5-1J engine but featuring new avionics. These included a collimator indicator (HUD), the Ferranti FASTAC (Flexible Avionics System for Training And Combat) system, a FIN1 100 position and navigation system, ALR-66 radar, and a Vinten Vicon 78 active and passive jamming system.

These advanced aircraft also incorporated HOTAS (Hands-On Throttle And Stick) controls and could be armed with AGM-65 missiles. Intended for use as an advanced combat trainer and a light attack aircraft, the C-101 continues to be in high demand.
