In 1935, the prototype of the Caudron C.480 Fregate aircraft was rolled out. Developed based on the earlier C.280 Phalene, this new machine featured a distinctive cabin layout. The pilot was positioned in front, while two passengers sat side-by-side behind them.
Aerodynamic Features
The C.480 Fregate was characterized by its high-mounted wing, which had a tapering leading edge and a straight trailing edge. This wing design was further supported by robust V-shaped struts, contributing to the aircraft’s stability and performance. These features were a notable evolution from its predecessor.
Production and Military Service
A total of 27 Caudron C.480 Fregate aircraft were produced. By 1939, with the global political situation deteriorating, 20 of these units were requisitioned by French authorities. They were subsequently transferred to the national Air Force, playing a role in France’s defensive preparations.
