Cessna 182S Skyline

Posted on July 9, 2026 By

The Cessna Model 182S Skyline is a light, multi-purpose transport aircraft developed by the American company Cessna Aircraft Co. In the early 1990s, Cessna resumed production of single-engine piston aircraft. The first models in this series were the 172R Skyhawk and the 182S Skylane.

The 182S is a modification of the previously produced Model 182, whose last aircraft was released in 1986. This re-entry into the market marked a new era for general aviation, offering reliable and versatile aircraft.

Development and Certification

The aircraft’s initial test flights took place on July 16, 1996, at the Wichita test airfield. It received its FAA certificate on October 3, 1996, after completing 164 hours of successful test flights.

The Cessna 182S is powered by a Textron Lycoming IO-540AB1A5 piston engine, delivering 230 horsepower at 2400 rpm. This engine is paired with a two-bladed McCauley constant-speed propeller, measuring 2.08 meters in diameter, ensuring optimal performance.

Production and Early Success

The first production aircraft was released on April 24, 1997. By the end of 1999, over 800 Cessna Model 182S Skyline aircraft had been built, demonstrating its rapid market acceptance. This model solidified Cessna’s position in the light aircraft segment.
