Posted on June 6, 2026 By

The Canadair CL-600-2B19 (Challenger 800) is a mid-range passenger aircraft designed for regional airlines. It was developed in 1995 by the Canadian company Canadair, which is part of Bombardier Aerospace. This model is a passenger variant of the Canadair CL-600 Challenger 601 business jet.

Its capacity ranges from 8 to 50 passengers, though in its business configuration, it can carry up to 19 occupants. It is distinguished by a fuselage lengthened by 6.09 meters and a larger wingspan, featuring vertical aerodynamic surfaces (winglets) installed at the wingtips.

Performance and Engine Evolution

Initially, the Challenger 800 was equipped with CF34-3A1 turbofan engines, offering a range of more than 5,556 km and a maximum weight of 24,040 kg. Subsequent versions of the aircraft incorporated the CF34-3B1 engines.

These more advanced engines can develop a thrust of 8,364 kg at an air temperature of 35°C, increasing its range to 5,778 km. As a result, this modification allows the Challenger 800 to operate effectively in high-altitude conditions and hot climates.

Notable Operators

The Challenger 800 has been adopted by numerous regular airline operators. Among them are internationally renowned companies such as Lufthansa and Malev Hungarian Airlines, highlighting its reliability and versatility in the regional aviation sector.
