The Caproni Ca.37: A Versatile Prototype
In the summer of 1916, Aeronautica Caproni, an Italian aviation company, developed a light, high-speed bomber designated Ca.37. This innovative aircraft, though ultimately a prototype, showcased impressive flight characteristics for its era.
Multi-role Design and Testing
Thanks to its excellent performance and a strategically placed forward gunner’s cockpit, the Ca.37 was envisioned for multiple roles. It could potentially serve as a heavy fighter or even an attack aircraft, demonstrating its adaptability beyond just bombing missions.
The sole prototype of the Ca.37 was powered by a 250 hp Lancia engine. It successfully underwent a comprehensive test cycle, proving its capabilities. However, despite its promising attributes, the aircraft did not proceed to series production.
